Imagine controlling the electronics and appliances in your home with your smartphone. This is not science fiction. It is Ube. When released later this year, the Ube app will enable many more consumers to afford this futuristic technology.
?Ube (pronounced `you-bee?) is proving the Internet of Things in the connected home,? Glen Burchers, Ube co-founder and CMO, told RESCUECOM. ?Ube is a mobile control platform (mobile app plus Cloud SAAS) for control of IP (Internet Protocol)-connected devices in the connected home. Ube can already control over 200 brand-name electronic devices from smart TVs, set top boxes, AV receivers, thermostats and even the new IP-enabled Craftsman garage door opener.?
?
It can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars for a custom installer to connect a household?s electronics through software and wire.
?But this solution is only available to the wealthiest consumers,? Burchers continued. ?Ube is creating disruptive technology to dramatically lower the cost of controlling your connected home. We use the amazing computing power of your smartphone, the ubiquity of the cloud and the standards of IP connectivity to eliminate the need for a custom programmer.?
Burchers gave three reasons to use Ube, although many new devices already come with smartphone apps for control through the Internet. The Ube app replaces the others, so it is easier to use just one app. ?The second benefit is conditional control,? he stated. ?For example, with Ube, you can have the TV and DVD player turn on at the same time when you want to watch a DVD. Or you can have the porch and kitchen lights turn on when you pull up in the driveway.?
?The third benefit is the reporting ability that our cloud service offers,? he added. ?For instance, do you want to know how many hours of TV your kids are watching? Or do you want to know how much energy your kitchen lights are using? We capture valuable data and present it back to the customers so that they can make intelligent decisions about their electronic usage.?
People who coordinate electronic devices in their home with Ube also should be aware of computer professionals, such as RESCUECOM, who provide home network service for computer repair and other electronic device repair.
Ube recently won the fall DEMO People?s Choice Award and $1 million advertising package prize and plans to introduce products that accomplish even more control.
?Ube is also seeding the market with IP connected lighting and energy products,? Burchers continued. ?Lighting is a very important subsystem in the connected home. And there were not any IP-controlled light dimmers, so we created the world?s most advanced in-wall smart dimmer switches, in-wall smart outlets and smart plug. These devices all use a 32-bit ARM processor running Android and they connect to your local router over WiFi.?
The Ube app will be available later this year, with the Ube smart dimmer, outlets and plugs available in the second quarter of 2013.
