Cooper Barton, Oklahoma Student In Trouble For Wearing Michigan T-Shirt, Gets Gifts, Invitation To Game

The 5-year-old kindergarten student who was told to turn his University of Michigan T-shirt inside out will be receiving a hero's welcome at an upcoming Michigan football game.

Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon called Cooper Barton and his family Wednesday, inviting them to the UM-UMass game Sept. 15 in Ann Arbor, Mich., all expenses paid. He's also planning to introduce Cooper to the 109,000-plus crowd at Michigan Stadium, and is sending the boy some spirited gifts.

"This is, as you will see, is a Michigan football T-shirt that we're going to send to Cooper," Brandon said at a press conference Wednesday while holding up a shirt made specially for the boy. "But what I want you to understand about this T-shirt is when you turn it inside-out, you get another Michigan T-shirt."

The kindergartner was told to turn his shirt inside-out at school last week because it violated Oklahoma City Public Schools' dress code, which bars students from wearing "clothing bearing the names or emblems of all professional and collegiate athletic teams (with the exception of Oklahoma colleges and universities)."

The policy was written in 2005 as part of an effort to curb gang activity. District officials have expressed their intent to review the policy to determine if changes should be made.

Since news of the incident spread, Cooper's family has received widespread support that Cooper's parents say is "amazing," the Detroit Free Press reports. But it's not just limited to UM, and the Bartons say they're "thrilled."

"Even the Ohio State fans, if you can believe that, have been supportive and sent us nice messages," Cooper's mother Shannon Barton told News9.

News 9 was with the family during Brandon's surprise call. Watch the station's report above and the athletic director's press conference below.

Video Marketing Tips

Did you know that there are now hundreds of millions who watch video advertisements? These videos are said to be more effective than other means of promotion as they are highly stimulating. No wonder they are now the new trend in online business. Many entrepreneurs are looking into the possibility of running their marketing campaign through videos because they are proving to be quite effective. If everyone else is doing it and you?re not, you might end up losing your chances among the public. In the following, let?s enumerate some video marketing tips to make certain that your odds for success will be high.

First things first, you must know that videos for internet marketing are very different from other SEO videos used in TV ads or big screen ads. They are a lot crisper and direct. While some of them can last as long as five minutes, this is already too long in the eyes of the online viewers. Since internet people are always in a hurry, they don?t typically have patience longer than an inch. If you are prudent, you must ensure that your ad is only as long as several seconds. Of course, you can make it longer in other occasion, but that would highly depend on the message you wish to get across.

The next thing you ought to know about video internet marketing is it has to be posted on a site (or sites) that has quality content. It may already be drab to hear the clich? ?Content is king,? but in this context, it does ring true! See, if you put your video ad on a site which doesn?t really have a reputation to brag, what is there to watch? Only a site that the public loves can encourage click-throughs. This is because they alone are worth listening to. Hence, make sure that you only post your video to a site you have built an online presence of spot-free reputation.

The third thing you need to concentrate on when it comes to video marketing tips is the importance of uniqueness. As already mentioned, the trend has grown in the world of online business. Hence, you need to find a way in joining the bandwagon, but at the same time, ensuring that you will stand out among the rest. Your video must not look generic. It mustn?t remind anyone of another video ad they saw on the internet. If it does, then you?ve already failed to maximize your investment in the campaign. See, the goal is to come up with a video ad that will generate strong response from the audience. And unfortunately, nothing generic can trigger this kind of reaction.

These are the video marketing tips you should follow if you wish to get into the bandwagon gracefully. Following them can ensure that you are only going to make a video that is worth the investment. Remember, short as it may be, a video can be a bit pricey especially if you are hiring a pro to do it. Make sure that you keep these pointers handy to make the most out of the endeavor. Of course, if you are knowledgeable in the video-making process yourself, results can even be a lot more amazing.

Movie review: 'Never Sorry' captures all the facets of Ai Weiwei | The ...

Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei, subject of the documentary "Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry." Ted Alcorn | Sundance Selects

Review ? Film gets into Chinese artist?s craft and activism.

The documentary "Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry" is the perfect marriage of a subject and a filmmaking style ? both prickly and confrontational, mixing art and politics with humor and personality.

First-time director Alison Klayman?s film is about one of the most fascinating artists in the world today, and it?s also about one of the most dogged activists in modern China. They?re the same man: Ai Weiwei.

?

HHHhj

?Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry?

A complex artist and activist gets a documentary worthy of his larger-than-life personality.

Where ? Broadway Centre Cinemas.

When ? Opens today.

Rating ? R for some language.

Running time ? 91 minutes; in English and in Mandarin with subtitles.

Ai came to global prominence after designing the "bird?s nest," the stadium that became the signature building of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Before that, he was making a name in China, and in certain art circles elsewhere, with his confrontational works ? such as his work involving Han dynasty pottery (painting a Coca-Cola logo on one, or having himself photographed dropping another) or his photo in which he flips the bird to Beijing?s Tiananmen Square. (To be fair, his "Study in Perspective" series also includes photos in which Ai flips off the White House and the Eiffel Tower. He does get around.)

Klayman catches Ai at the crossroads of artistic and political attention. While he?s preparing major international shows (one at the Tate Modern in London, another in S?o Paulo), he?s also fighting Chinese authorities over his crusading work after the Sichuan earthquake, in which 70,000 people were killed. Ai battled bureaucracy to collect the names of the schoolchildren killed in the quake, to agitate for investigations of shoddy school construction.

The most tension-filled moments of Klayman?s documentary come when Ai and his friends go to Chengdu, in Sichuan province, to investigate the deaths. Ai?s dealings with local police start out comically, as they videotape him while his videographer aims his camera at the police, but then turn harrowing when they raid his hotel room at 3 a.m. and someone punches him in the head.

The other important aspect of Ai?s art and activism is his embrace of Twitter. (His motto, shown at the movie?s end, is a defiant "Don?t retreat, retweet!") The social-media site has allowed Ai a global reach and an instantaneous response time that flustered the Chinese government ? at least for a time, until the government filed tax-evasion charges that mounted to a $2.4 million bill.

Klayman ? employing archival footage, interviews and online video ? captures Ai Weiwei?s family history (his father was a poet subjugated under Mao?s "re-education" regime), his formative days as a young New York artist, his idiosyncrasies (such as his studio?s many cats, including one that can open doors) and foibles (including some scenes in which Ai plays with his son, the product of an extramarital affair). The result is a documentary that mercifully doesn?t try to simplify its exploration of a complex person.

Tim Kawakami: Bay Area baseball tainted again by drug issues

It keeps happening, and most specifically, it keeps happening in the Bay Area, home of two baseball teams and a seemingly endless amount of PED use.

Just as the pennant races got fired up, key members of the A's and Giants apparently got juiced up. And got caught. And penalized. That's the story of this season now, that's how this will go into the history books.

Yippee.

With Wednesday's news that Bartolo Colon tested positive for testosterone and has been suspended 50 games, there's no doubt about it:

The Bay Area is the Hometown of Steroids, and that's both frustrating and incredibly devastating for the credibility of the two teams' achievements this season.

Last week, I said the Giants franchise was cursed by steroids. Clearly, it's not limited to them - it's the whole region, and I don't know when the curse will be lifted.

Just in this year alone, Giants reliever Guillermo Mota was suspended 100 games for a second-time PED offense, then came Melky Cabrera's infamous 50-game ban and now Colon, who has been such a vital part of the A's pitching staff.

To make it all more numbing: Colon's suspension came exactly one week after Cabrera's suspension, almost to the minute, for the same substance.

I wouldn't imagine that Colon's suspension will quite have the shock value in the A's clubhouse that Cabrera's had in Giantsland. Cabrera was the All-Star game MVP and the No. 3 hitter, and the Giants are just more emotional, by nature, than the A's, who are used to many comings and goings in the clubhouse.

But (unlike Cabrera, for instance) Colon was an important emotional part of the A's run - he was the one steely veteran going out there every fifth day, throwing strikes, steadying all those impressive young starters. His advice was important and often requested.

His was an amazing story, coming back from major injury issues and a career lull in his 30s to pitch well and forcefully in his late-30s, first with the Yankees last year and this year with the A's, at 39.

Like Cabrera's recent rise, it was too good to be true.

In Bay Area baseball, too-good-to-be-true almost always turns out to be chemically aided and soon-to-be-an-embarrassment.

Of course, it starts with the whole sordid history of BALCO (the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative) and Barry Bonds and the early steroid adventures of Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire.

The Mitchell Report was littered with the names of Bay Area players; now, years later, the Bay Area is home to three players testing positive for PED use.

At this point, nobody in the Bay Area can be blindsided by anything like this anymore.

We all just go into automatic mode now: Absorb the news, wait for the player's public statement, try to figure out how the team will deal with it.

Here's Colon's statement Wednesday, issued via the players union (just as Cabrera's statement was last week):

"I apologize to the fans, to my teammates and to the Oakland A's. I accept responsibility for my actions and I will serve my suspension as required by the Joint Drug Program."

How will the A's deal with it? They have pitching depth, as evidenced by Brett Anderson's brilliant return Tuesday night from Tommy John surgery. More than most teams, they can absorb the loss of a stalwart starter.

They still can make it into the playoffs. They have plenty of good players who remain unsuspended and theoretically free of steroids.

But the A's have lost credibility with this, as all teams lose credibility when they win games with players who are proven cheaters. They won 14 games that Colon started, including five of his last six starts.

If the A's fail to make the playoffs, they can point to the loss of Colon at this crucial period. If they do make the postseason, the 14 victories he helped get will be a part of it.

And it all makes 2012 unclean, tainted, and a perfect reflection of Bay Area baseball, the cradle and largest current purveyor of steroid use.
